I never listen to critics either... I'm quite capable of spotting a shitty movie all by myself.

yeah, it's hard to be a fan of the SW prequels and listen to critics...

I'll watch them on the movie channel or rent them on DVD if I'm bored... that way I never feel ripped off.Originally posted by madadman:

Most "professional" critics will analyze a film far more than is ever intended. It's their job to point out the flaws that prevent a film from being technically perfect. There is also the fact that some critics favor a genre over others and therefore are biased.
For a critic to say "The Fantastic 4 is one of the crappiest movies ever made and I had to pop my eyeballs up my ass just to put moisture back in them after enduring such a wasteland of a film", doesn't hold much for me. I know it sounds bad and will deter a lot of moviegoers, but what if there are crazy people who like lame movies with obvious humour and tired special effects based on a waning group of super-powered misfits? Shouldn't a critic be saying "Yeah, dude! This is your kind of movie. You'll love it."

Yep. Listening to friends is probably the best way to find out if a flick is worth seeing. But you can only do that after the movie's been released. I'll check the critics a good week before a movie opens - and Rotten Tomatoes is a great way to get cross section reactions from fans site critics as well as the Eberts and Roepers. If they all pretty much say a movie sucks, you can bet I'll probably agree and won't be wasting my time or money. The Hulk is a recent exception to this and it's a decision I regret. I cant really use what a critic says to make me see a movie or not.. it's all personal bias, or should be.... if you think it looks crappy YOu shouldn't go see it, I cant really trust, or tolerate, someone else really telling me what to watch... what MIGHT be good, okay, or bad, though, helps
Basically, I'll just read reviews for spoilers, opinions, or just tips on the movie... not really for any bias on whether to see it or not. because usually, if I dont see it in theatres, I'll still end up seeing the shit, like Spore said
